Okay–I promised myself that I wouldn’t get behind on “blogging” this season, but it’s been absolutely hectic since school started at the end of August!! With little free time, social sites like Facebook and Twitter have taken first priority due to faster pic uploads! We’re a “social” team–what can I say?!?! 🙂
Hopefully, you all have been reading the tournament updates, so you are probably up to speed on everything that’s been going on!! Thus, I will give you a more “inside” view of the tournaments that we have played along with a fun slideshow.
First up for this season was “Notre Dame!” We flew to Chicago (then drove to South Bend, Indiana) for a National event at Notre Dame’s home course, the Warren Golf Club!!! The top teams from Nationals were invited, so it was basically like a “Fall Preview.” We wore our NIKE neon yellow pullovers with “George Fox” screen-printed down the back for the first time–so definitely we received a lot of attention walking through the airports (not that we were looking for any!). I never thought that when purchasing those pullovers that we would be like walking billboards for our university!! It’s great though—promoting GFU wherever we go!
We developed some new fans along the way–including “Brent” who was on the range with us before our practice round–and his shirt was exactly the same color as ours (it’s a tough blue to match), so we decided he was officially a fan!!! We can decide that with anyone at any time!! We love our fans!!!
Also at Notre Dame—we did our traditional “jump for Jesus” photo’s in front of the “Touchdown Jesus” enormous wall mural!! We walked the campus, had dinner at “Legends” and just enjoyed the whole ND scene! Unfortunately, Megan developed tendonitis in her arm during our practice round, so she had to sit out. It was a bummer as she was ready to go and hitting it solid!!! Megan is on the “reserve list” now, but hopefully will be back in action soon! She’s doing everything she can to get her arm back to normal—actually better than normal, so can’t wait!
As a team we finished in 6th at Notre Dame, which was a good start for us, and we just missed 5th by one slim stroke! Our own Kelsey won Medalist—which was really cool too!!! We showed the other top teams that we are bringin’ it this season—so look out!
Next came the Pacific Invitational at Quail Valley GC in North Plains OR (about 45 minutes from us). It was fun having a more local event and lots of parents and fans out to watch!!! We played strong—and everyone took home medals—which is always nice. We also had our traditional “pizza” at Main Street pizza near the course!
Our last tournament was one that we hosted last weekend (the Culturame Classic) at The Reserve GC in Aloha, OR! It’s an awesome championship course and we had perfect weather—well, a little breezy the first day—but glorious sunshine for both days!!!! We had lots of parents and fans out once again, and we just had a lot of fun soaking up the beautiful fall rays–and hit some great golf shots too!!
Now, we are getting ready for Sonoma next weekend—and then our Fall Classic in Ridgefield WA the following weekend!!! This fall season seems to have flown by–but still lots of great golf left—so stay tuned for more exciting golf action soon!!!!
